Judge Biel is the current Magistrate Judge, Division 6, and she has proudly served the citizens of San Juan County for nearly 12 years in that capacity.   


She brings nearly 40 years of legal and judicial service, and a long record of community involvement to her work on behalf of San Juan County. Her accomplishments include service as Magistrate Judge, Probate Judge, and in multiple court and legal system roles, along with leadership in professional legal organizations and statewide judicial education. 


She has also demonstrated a strong commitment to San Juan County through civic service, volunteer leadership, and deep community roots. Her goal is to continue serving with integrity, experience, and sound judgment- remaining tough but fair, upholding the law, supporting public safety, and treating every person with dignity and respect.

 Judge Stacey Biel brings nearly 40 years of legal experience to the bench, including nearly 12 years serving as Magistrate Judge. Her background also includes two years as San Juan County Probate Judge, 15 years at District Court, four years at Municipal Court, and four years with the San Juan County District Attorney’s Office. That depth of experience has given her a strong understanding of the law, the courtroom, and the responsibility that comes with serving the people of San Juan County.

 Judge Stacey Biel has a long record of community service in San Juan County, with leadership and volunteer involvement in organizations that support local families, youth, and community well-being. Her service has included Rotary, the Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, Theater Ensemble Arts, Halvorson House, and other civic and service organizations. That commitment reflects the same values she brings to the bench: compassion, responsibility, and a genuine dedication to serving the people of this community.

 Judge Stacey Biel’s commitment to the bench goes beyond her years of service in the courtroom. She has also invested in the continued strength of the judicial system by helping educate, mentor, and support other magistrate judges across New Mexico. She was appointed by the New Mexico Supreme Court to serve as a mentor judge, and she also served as a Cadre Instructor for the Judicial Education Center at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she helped develop curriculum and instruct classes for magistrate judges statewide. These roles reflect not only her experience and dedication to the law, but also her belief that learning, preparation, and strong judicial leadership matter at every level.

 Judge Stacey Biel has also served in a number of professional legal and judicial leadership roles, including board service with the Magistrate Judge’s Association and Probate Judge’s Association. She has been active with multiple judicial and legal user groups, served as President and Secretary of the San Juan Legal Association, and also served as Secretary of the New Mexico District Court Employees Association. These roles reflect not only her leadership and long-standing commitment to improving the administration of justice, but also the respect and confidence her peers have placed in her experience, judgment, and ability to lead.
